September 26, 2024 - The Mastery Approach for Contamination OCD
I am excited to have TEAM therapist and OCD specialist Rich Gallagher, LMFT present a fresh new approach to treating contamination OCD to you: the Mastery approach. Contamination OCD is one of the most common and difficult-to-treat forms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Rich is the author of the newly-released book The Contamination OCD Workbook, and it is the best work I’ve read on OCD treatment.
This webinar will discuss a humane and well-tolerated treatment strategy for dealing with contamination fears. Core concepts of the Mastery approach include:
• Setting goals for functioning better, as opposed to simply getting used to yuck
• Comfortably practicing expanding your level of functioning, using reasonable accommodations if needed, so that triggers soften over time
• Using the concept of “readiness” to guide the pace of your practice strategy
This approach builds on traditional exposure and response prevention (ERP) and ACT therapy, based on emerging literature, and Rich will share examples from his own recovery as well as a soon-to-be-published client case study. Today this approach has been published by the IOCDF, is in use at major clinics worldwide, and was one of the most-attended sessions at the 2023 Online OCD Conference.

October 20, 2022 - Healing OCD - ERP and Beyond
In this free webinar, I will feature a panel of 4 OCD experts and TEAM-CBT therapists who use a variety of treatment approaches to help people heal from OCD. They have all been well trained in ERP, and we will discuss other evidence-based approaches beyond traditional ERP that I feel really excited about sharing with you.
Our panel of experts will include:
- Amy Huberman, MD from Maryland
- Rich Gallagher, LMFT from New York
- Margaret McCall, LPC from Georgia
- Bronwyn Shroyer, LCSW from Indiana
We have all seen the powerful healing effects of ERP for many clients suffering from OCD. In honor of the TEAM-CBT spirit: Tools not Schools of Therapy, we also see times when traditional evidence-based approaches don’t fully help the unique human being sitting across from us. Instead of trying to fit the client into any one approach, we all feel passionate about finding the approach that best fits the client for their healing journey.
Some discussion topics with our awesome panelists will include:
- What is your experience with traditional OCD treatment strategies such as ERP?
- What are other options when ERP doesn't work for the client?
- What are other options for OCD treatment that you have found to be effective?
- What is I-CBT, and what are your experiences with it?
- The Hidden Emotion is one important method that's missed in the current OCD literature at this time. Any success stories for you all with using the hidden emotion in the treatment of OCD?
- Rich and Bronwyn, as clinicians with lived experience with OCD, what helped you in your healing journey?
- What are your views on the role of exposure versus response prevention in OCD treatment?
- Can you share a bit more about the treatment of disgust-based OCD vs fear-based OCD?
- How about the treatment of comorbid OCD/PTSD?

October 29, 2021 - How to Set Up and Conduct TEAM-CBT Intensives to Improve Effectiveness
I am really excited to have my friend Dr. Amy Huberman on as a guest speaker for this webinar to share all about doing TEAM-CBT Intensives. She is a psychiatrist in Maryland with a unique practice that focuses on treating patients with anxiety solely through intensives.

After consulting with Amy, I had a much clearer picture of how to set up the intensive to have more success and accountability with my client. I think this information is valuable to all TEAM-CBT practitioners, and I feel so grateful that she has generously volunteered her time to share her insights, experiences, mistakes and wisdom with our TEAM community.

**January 14, 2021 - Treating Intrusive Thoughts with TEAM-CBT, Part 1 **
In this webinar, I addressed how I’ve used TEAM-CBT and other resources to treat clients with intrusive thoughts, also referred to as “Pure O” OCD. We will review tools from the following treatment models:
Motivational - I’ll walk you through how we help clients work through outcome resistance by uncovering the benefits of the intrusive thoughts and negative emotions that follow. We’ll also work through process resistance by uncovering the benefits of thought control/suppression in addition to providing some psychoeducation about the nature of intrusive thoughts.
Cognitive - I will share with you how I use the cognitive model to treat intrusive thoughts, without engaging in the content of the intrusive thoughts, getting reassurance or certainty.
Hidden Emotion - In many cases with clients with intrusive thoughts, there are often things bothering them that they are not addressing because they want to be “nice” and not rock the boat. Showing them how to reveal the hidden emotion and address the problem can often alleviate intrusive thoughts and anxiety.
Exposure - Often, clients will need to do exposure with the intrusive thoughts in order to fully recover.
